Patrick & the Swayzees

God Bless this band.

As I've mentioned before - music is easy to find in the Keys.  Its everywhere - this is a good thing.  Part of my pre-trip prep each time is to check the best spots for who's playing.  So when I saw a band called Patrick & the Swayzees playing at the Green Parrot - I knew what I'd be doing that day.  Came for the 5:30 "Soundcheck" and found the place packed - so, apparently I hadn't stumbled across a hidden gem.  The musical explosion that followed was something else - had the whole place dancing to music that crossed generations.

Then that same trip - I stumbled across them at Sunset Pier and around town - a great band that also works hard?  My lord.

So I did some reading - and I'm sure I'll screw this up - I guess the core band had played all over the Keys for years (individually?  as a band?  I don't know...) and then by happenstance found their current lead singer when he came to Key West and basically decided not to leave.  Well good for them, good for us (as the audience.)  Les (the singer) even made it pretty far in American Idol auditions (not quite to the show - his "all out" singing style didn't full translate to TV I think - but it works on stage.)

My parents ran in to some Key West residents up here in RI and it seemed like they may have had some Swayzee fatigue (too many shows) - or maybe there were just grumps who don't know a good time.  If you can catch this band.  Do it.

And if the band is reading - you keep creeping up the coast on mini-tours - how about something in New England.  We're ready for ya.
